In my eyes fall has a certain aesthetic, the knit warm sweaters, the pumpkin spiced everything and the adorable little booties. Growing up in Hawaii I romanticized constantly about everything fall related, most importantly fall fashion. Every year I see pictures of autumn flood my Instagram feed and Pinterest boards. I stare at girls in knee length coats holding steaming Starbucks drinks, they almost mocked me through the screen. So this year I said enough is enough, I saved my summer money and bought a plane ticket to a fall hot spot. Lake Tahoe, California. My suitcase was almost ripping at the seams from all the clothes I had saved for this occasion. A quick rundown of everything that is popular this fall is wool berets, oversize huge scarfs and of course neutral colored thigh high boots.(I had packed all these items in my suitcase already.) Fall fashion on the mainland is all about layering, here in Hawaii layering is a foreign concept. But when is 30 degrees in the morning then bounces to 60 degrees for lunch. Layering will be your new best friend. On my trip the low for the night was 29 degrees, which in Hawaii terms is straight up freezing, and it really never got above 55 degrees. But all the trees were a bright shade of yellows and oranges, fallen leaves covered driveways and yards. The place I went for fall photos was Hope Valley, the aspens were in clusters against the pines. We kept pulling off the highway to observe all the beautiful rivers and an adorable cafe. I made the rookie mistake to wear high heeled booties which ultimately killed my feet. When I was going home I clicked through my fall pictures, and all of them were worth the pain of cold noses and hands. Plus the 400$ airplane ticket (ouch). I was so glad I took this trip to the mainland, to see first hand all the fall trees and the fashion.

I went to Good Will and picked up this trendy white turtle neck sweater
